The Anglo-Italian Inter Leagues Clubs Competition more commonly known as the Anglo-Italian Cup started in 1970 and ran until 1973. It reappeared in various guises throughout the seventies, eighties and nineties.
The programme shown above is the 1973 official souvenir handbook and ranks as one of my all-time favourite cover designs. It’s got a wonderful sense of movement and energy whilst conveying a unity of purpose between the English and Italian leagues as they come together in the spirit of friendly competition.
The 1973 competition was won by Newcastle Utd who beat Fiorentina 2-1.
