A Cut Above - Super Blades Stay Sharp

Sheffield United Division Four Champions 1981/82 - A two page spread from Match Weekly Magazine paying tribute to the Blades Championship winning team.

This was my first full season supporting the Blades and one I can remember as if it was yesterday. Off the top of my head the games that stand out are, in no particular order ..

a League Cup game against Arsenal at Bramall Lane when we won 1-0, a great result given we were in the bottom division and the Arsenal, as usual, were in the top flight.

an evening goalfest under floodlights at Bramall Lane with the Blades just about managing to see off Northampton Town by seven goals to three.

a 2-2 draw at home to promotion rivals Bradford City that attracted the day’s highest crowd in England that included Liverpool playing at home in Europe.

Keith Edwards scoring a last minute winner to clinch a 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic in a match that saw Larry Lloyd get some good-natured abuse from the Kop.

Jeff King (pictured above) scoring a late winner to give the Blades a scintillating 3-2 win away at Crewe & send three sides of the ground delirious with joy.

Final home game of the season bringing a fantastic 4-0 win over Peterborough with the last moments of the game being played out with Blades fans encircling the pitch ready for a celebratory pitch invasion.

an 11000 strong travelling army of Blades celebrating the title in style at Darlington in the last game of the season.
